Help in setting up your dial-up connection

Before you begin these instructions we will assume that:

  • Your modem is installed and configured properly
  • You have an active account with Cyberstation
  • Your modem is connected to your phone line

Here are the proper settings for Win95 users:
In the My Computer folder, you need to have dial up networking installed. If you don't have dial-up networking installed, consult your Windows help to install it. Here is what you should see in your "My Computer" folder (my computer is named "zen"):

Now when you open dialup networking, you should make a new connection, and call it CST. Right click on the CST icon, and left click on properties. The result looks like this in the dial-up networking folder:

Now, the properties dialog box should look like this, with the cyberstation phone number.

Now click on "Server Type" in the above dialog box and you will fill out that dialog as follows:

Click "OK" on this and on the previous boxes until you are back at the dial-up networking folder.
(Trick: Right click on the Cyberstation icon and drag it to the desktop and create a shortcut to this connection when you release the button)
Now you must configure the Network properties in the Control Panel. Click on "start", then settings.. control panel .. double-click on the network icon in control panel. It looks like this:

You will be presented with the following Network window;

The minimum required protocols are; Client for Microsoft Networks, Dial-Up Adapter, and TCP/IP. You must add these protocols if you do not already have them installed. After adding each of these protocols, highlighting each of them the proper Primary Network Logon should be to Client for Microsoft Networks. After ensuring this, highlight TCP/IP and select the Properties button and you will get a setup window as shown;

Leave this box set as above, unless you have a static IP number.
Next click on the "gateway" tab above. Put the gateway number there as follows and click the 'Add' button:

Next, click on the "DNS Configuration" tab. Fill that out as below:
(Please note: the Host should be your username)

Now click "OK" all the way back to the control panel folder. -- You will have to restart your machine for all the settings to take effect. If you have any trouble following these directions, please mail us at help@cyberstation.net or call the help desk at 691-1081.
